Many individuals believe that since laser energy only affects hairs that are visible above the skin's surface, using it on them will simply cause them to melt, die, and disappear.
But it doesn't work like that. Secondly, high radiation levels would be needed to effectively vaporize hair with laser energy. But, getting rid of the hair would not ensure that it will stop growing back. This is because you wouldn't be shooting at the place where hair truly grows, the hair follicle.

How does removing hair with a laser work?
Melanin and the hair's anchoring in the hair follicle are two essential components of laser hair eradication. Your hair's melanin gives it color (it also gives our skin its color). The melanin absorbs the laser light energy and transforms it to heat when laser light energy pulses are applied to an area of undesired hair. When that heat enters the follicle through the hair shaft, it damages it and prevents it from growing hair.
The stage of development is crucial.
Many patients are puzzled by the fact that the majority of the hair in the treatment areas needs to be permanently removed over the course of several sessions. The cause is the growth cycle.
Human hair goes through three stages during its growth cycle: anagen (growth), catagen (transitional), and telogen (resting). Only in the anagen phase is the hair actively connected to the follicle. During the catagen and telogen phases of the shedding process, the hair is driven out of the follicle. Laser radiation cannot penetrate the follicle at this moment because the hair is already on its way out.
